Farmer Grants

                                                        APPLICATION ACCEPTANCE IS NOW CLOSED

Applications are being accepted August 1, 2024 through  August 31, 2024 for FARMER Grants to Upgrade Agricultural Equipment

$5.4 million is available across 15 California air districts for replacement of agricultural trucks, pump engines, tractors and more!

Funds to replace old agricultural equipment and vehicles are available starting August 1st, 2023.

Replacement with cleaner equipment helps reduce emissions of harmful diesel exhaust and greenhouse gases and improves local air quality.

The statewide Funding Agricultural Replacement Measures for Emission Reductions (FARMER) program received $150 million in fiscal year 2023-24. Approximately $5.4 million is specifically designated for districts that each contribute less than 1 percent of total statewide emissions from agricultural equipment, known as the “Shared Allocation Pool” districts. NSAMQD is part of this Shared Pool and will be receiving funds for allocation for local replacement projects.

Since the FARMER program first launched in 2018, projects implemented by the Shared Allocation Pool districts are expected to reduce 32 tons of fine particulate matter (PM 2.5), 555 tons of nitrogen oxides (NOx), and 3,270 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent greenhouse gases.

The application period for the Shared Allocation Pool kicks off August 1 and runs through August 31, 2023. FARMER funding is administered by California’s regional air districts, and farmers can apply by submitting an application to their local air district. If you are located in Plumas, Sierra or Nevada County, application can be submitted to NSAQMD.

To be eligible, vehicles and equipment must be engaged in agricultural operations and meet other eligibility requirements.

Eligible project categories include:

  • Off-road equipment replacements (such as tractors and swathers)
  • Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTV) and small tractor replacements
  • Stationary and portable engine repowers (such as agricultural pumps)
